Raisin Competition at Grant's Town
"The
longer I serve Him the sweeter he grows"
During
Communion Service on Sabbath, March 28, 2015, the pastor
asked all persons under the age of twenty to participate
in a competition to make raisins. He said the
first one to bring to him on a Sabbath day, raisins they
made will get a prize.
As a
part of the Communion Service the song "The Longer I
Serve Him the Sweeter He Grows" was sung by the
congregation. The pastor reminded the congregation
that although every moment in life might not be sweet,
our relationship with Jesus can always be sweet because
of our faith relationship with Him.
He
illustrated that like raisins, which are made from
grapes by being dried in the sunlight, that are
eventually sweeter than the grapes themselves, so it is
when a Christian's life is being bathed in the
"Sunlight" of Jesus. We trust, we wait, we
climb the rough side of the mountain. The longer
we stay in the "Sunlight" the sweeter is our
relationship with Him. Hence, the simple
competition to make raisins.
He
also gave another illustration from the song "Climbing
Up the Rough Side of the Mountain." He said
that in reality the rough side is much easier than the
smooth side. The "rough" side of the mountain
provides the "grips" -- rocks, crevasses, roots, holes
--- we can hold on to pull ourselves upward. These
are the disappointments, discouragements, chaos, etc.,
in our lives. Without them we cannot move forward.
Perhaps we can also liken the heat of the sunlight to
mean the same. But it is the sunlight that makes
sweet raisins.
Here's
how to make
raisins from wikihow.com
-
Start with fresh green or purple grapes. Be sure
they are fresh, ripe, not mushy or otherwise
blemished. Check them carefully.
-
Remove the larger stems from the grapes and wash
them thoroughly. Do not remove all grapes from the
stems. If you are unsure of their origin, a rinse in
a diluted bleach solution (two drops household
bleach in a quart of water) may be safer.
-
Place them on a tray. Use a wooden, wicker, bamboo,
or plastic tray that is slatted, so air can
circulate around the fruit.
-
Place them outside in a dry sunny place (this
requires warm, dry weather). If your climate
produces night fogs or dew, take the trays inside at
night.
-
Let them sit out in the sun for 2-3 days, or until
dry (taste test). Rotate the fruit and/or trays to
ensure even exposure to the sun.
-
Remove dried grapes gently from the remaining stems
and store in a dry airtight container in a cool
place.
Why
are raisins sweeter than grapes? As the grape
dries, the water evaporates, leaving the sweet taste
behind.
Why are raisins smaller than grapes? Water is taken out
of the grapes, making them smaller.

wonderful as the scores of church member walked the

Blood pressure was taking about about fifty persons on
