The primary
period for the Adventist World Survey on Women
Ordination to the gospel ministry begin May 1, 2010 and
ended July 8, 2015.
Below are the results of
the primary period of this survey (May 1, 2010 to July 8, 2015).
Total Votes: 7349
Total fully against women ordination: 954 (13%)
Total fully in support of women ordination: 6388 (87%)
Below you can see the
detailed results. However, some may observe that 67%
of the votes came from North American Division (4921 votes).
But it is imperative to understand that about 30% of those
voters indicated "No." Hence, it is fair to say, and from
daily observation of the voting, that there were "YES" and "No"
votes from every Division around the world.
THE QUESTIONS
Note carefully that
there are two kinds of questions that are formulated to really
test the voters' belief system. There is the "Opinion"
vote and the "Attitude" vote. In other words one may
have a strong opinion on one side but when the vote is done may
support the other side. Hence it is opinion verses actual
behavior. For example, one may "not support women
ordination to the gospel ministry." However, that same
person will be "willing to support whatever decision the
church takes." This is the one that was used to tally the
statistics above. It is clear that in both question those
supporting or agreeing on women ordination were the highest
votes.
Note for yourself:
OPINION VOTE:
I fully support
women ordination without reservations 64% - 4702
votes (Note that less than this amount voted "Yes"
from the North American Division)
I support women
ordination with some reservation 12% - 891 votes
I do not support
women ordination to the gospel ministry 24% - 1750 votes
ATTITUDE VOTE:
If women are
permitted to be ordained I will fully support them 74%
- 5416 votes
If women are
ordained to the gospel ministry I will not support them 13%
- 972 votes.
Although I do not
agree that women should be ordained I am willing to support
whatever position the church takes 13% 954
